I’ve Been Swimming Upstream

I am currently doing my 3rd round of P90X®. I was hoping to trim some fat from around my waist (I have a genetic issue where it seems all my fat is stored in my hips, giving me love handles).

The other couple times through the program I didn’t pay that much attention to what I ate, but this time I decided to monitor my food intake. I started this round weighing in at 205.5lbs. My goal was to get down to somewhere around 180lbs.

I am in week 6 and I have lost 11.8lbs which is ok, but not great. I’m adhering to a fairly strict diet, sticking around 2,000 calories a day. I have been tracking this on DailyBurn so that I can get a good idea of where I am.

I found out last week why I haven’t been progressing as I thought I should. I went to the doctor and was told that I have hypothyroidism (an underactive thyroid), which has a lot of symptoms, one of the main ones being a slowed down metabolism and being tired often times. So now I am on thyroid medicine.

The issue is that the medicine may not fully kick in for another four weeks. This will put me in week 10 of the 12 week P90X® program. I am getting stronger and I am pretty sure I am getting leaner, but it’s frustrating to know that the results could have been a lot better.

I’ll keep at it, and hopefully the dosage will be the correct one and I can get everything back to “normal.”
