Can we have a “Coming Out” day for all MLB steroid users.

With the recent admission by Mark McGwire that he used steroids as a MLB player with the Oakland A’s and Stl. Cardinals, the sports radio hosts, the sports writers and bloggers have re-hashed the same old discussion. It’s the same discussion they had when Alex Rodriguez admitted, the same one when Clemens was accused (although to this day he still denies it), and the same one with Barry Bonds.

Then the discussion evolves. It goes from talking about the person accused (or that has come out) to the “steroids” area in baseball to the Hall of Fame discussion. To me this discussion is getting old. And frankly, it’s useless. We are left to put together a puzzle piece by piece but have so many pieces missing we are unable to come up with the clear picture.

I have a proposed solution.

I would love it if we could just dedicate one day to have all MLB players (past and present) that have used PEDs to confess. MLB could meet with the Attorney General and set it up so that any player announcing on this “coming out” day would be granted immunity. Then MLB could schedule a press conference starting at say 9am for however long it takes and have one player after another come to the podium and confess. No need for lame apologies or excuses. Just confess. On top of that, all the players that are on that infamous “positive list” are required to step to the podium and clear the air.

Would this solve anything? I don’t know. It may get the main question answered (or as close to answered as it ever will) everyone is asking: who’s clean and who’s not?

To me, this would be a great way to clear the air at least as much as it will ever be. What do you think?
